    Teams of this University are known as the Blue Devils. They are competing in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) division I level FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision). Available sports for men are: football, golf, lacrosse, swimming & diving, cross country, fencing, track & field, baseball, basketball, soccer, wrestling and tennis. Women's sports are: cross country, fencing, field hockey, swimming & diving, tennis, basketball, rowing, soccer, golf, lacrosse, track & field and volleyball.

    Blue devils have won 15 NCAA national championships! The best is women’s golf team, who won 6 championships in (1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2014), the men's basketball team won 4 ((1991, 1992, 2001, and 2010), the men’s lacrosse team won 3 and women's tennis and men's soccer won per one championship. Duke University won 126 ACC Championships, in men’s golf, lacrosse, football and volleyball. Since 2000 they have won 52 league crowns! They are known for winning at least one ACC championship per year, since 1980, and at least two per season from 1991. The biggest rival is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Their matches are expected every year, especially in basketball.

    Because this is the private institution, there is no information about their athletic department revenues. On the other side, the attendance information is available. Average attendance per one football match is 26.000. The number of viewers per one home basketball match is 9.200. As you can see, football is much more popular than basketball.

    The mascot of this university is rooted in a French alpine fighting unit. It is considered to be patriotic and military.
